BridgeDummy puzzles are short, focused exercises that test real bridge decisions. Each one gives you a hand, a bidding sequence, and a choice to make. You pick your answer, submit it, and instantly see how your choice stacks up.
No timer, no pressure. You can take as long as you want on each puzzle. The goal is to build your bridge instincts one decision at a time.
Choosing a Category
When you open the Puzzles page, you have three ways to pick what you solve: Random, Category, or Template.
Random hands you whatever is next in the queue. Category lets you filter by puzzle type (Bidding or Lead) and scoring format (Matchpoints or IMPs). If you are just starting out, try Bidding MP puzzles first. They are the most intuitive for newer players.
Templates go a step further and let you practice specific bridge scenarios, like responding to a 1NT opening or choosing an opening lead against a slam. These are great once you know which areas you want to sharpen.
How Stars Work
After you submit your answer, BridgeDummy scores it on a 1-to-5 star scale. Five stars means you picked an optimal or co-best option. Four stars means you were very close. Three stars and below means there were stronger alternatives.
Stars are not random. They are based on simulation results from a large deal sample. The platform runs each option across matching hands and measures actual outcomes, so your star rating reflects how your choice performs in practice.
If you land on 4 stars, you might see a "near-perfect" note telling you how close you were. Even at 2 or 3 stars, BridgeDummy shows you how your pick compared to the community, so you always walk away learning something.
What Happens After You Answer
Once you submit in regular practice, the results screen shows your star rating, how every option scored, and what percentage of other players chose each one. You can see why one bid or lead outperformed another.
Your answer updates your puzzle stats, category averages, points, and level progress. In competitive modes, your results can also affect Challenge ELO through head-to-head outcomes, Daily Challenge bonuses, or Weekly League tier movement.
You will also notice your level and progress bar updating. Each star you earn is worth points toward the next level, so better answers move the bar faster. Consistency matters.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Practice
Start with one category and stick with it for a few sessions. Jumping between Lead and Bidding puzzles is fine, but focused practice helps patterns stick faster.
Pay attention to the results breakdown after each puzzle. The community distribution tells you what most players chose, and the score comparison shows you why the top option wins. This is where the real learning happens.
If you score 5 stars, you will see a celebration animation. Get multiple 5-star results in a row and the streak counter kicks in. It is a small thing, but it feels good when you are on a roll.
