BBO Alternatives in 2026: Where to Play and Train Bridge Online

I play on BBO. Most competitive bridge players do. But if you are searching for BBO alternatives, I can guess why. The GIB robots bid at roughly a C-player level, according to BridgeWinners. Social tables attract players who eject you for winning. The mobile app registers misclicks on small screens. A July 2025 outage knocked out tournaments mid-session. And if you want structured training for your bidding or opening leads, BBO simply does not offer it.

Those complaints split into two categories: playing problems and a training gap. This article covers eight platforms that address one or both, as of August 2026. Some replace BBO for live play. Others fill the training hole that BBO leaves wide open. For most players, the honest answer is not to replace BBO but to add a second tool. IntoBridge is the most direct BBO replacement for live play. You get unlimited casual tables against real opponents, for free. The LIA bot fills empty seats. ACBL-sanctioned events cost $2.29 per Ranked Pass. Weekly learning duplicates add a light competitive layer.

The free tier includes 99 ranked boards on signup, a Daily Dozen, and a Daily Celebrity Challenge. The Supporter plan costs GBP 11.90/month or GBP 99.90/year, adding unlimited ranked play, audio/video at the table, and a "What would LIA bid?" hint feature. Available on web, iOS, Android, and Mac.

The honest drawback: LIA's bidding relies on double-dummy analysis, which BridgeWinners users describe as showing "undue optimism" in competitive auctions. There is no puzzle mode, no lead trainer, no structured practice. IntoBridge solves the playing problem. It does not touch the training gap.

RealBridge brings the social feel of a physical club online. Players see and hear each other through video and voice during the session. Clubs, teachers, and national bridge organizations use it to host directed games.

Players join for free. Clubs pay roughly GBP 0.30 to 0.96 per player per session. No public lobby, no robots, no solo practice. You need a club or teacher to invite you. Web only.

I like RealBridge for what it is: the closest thing to sitting at a real table. But you cannot drop in and play whenever you want. It fills one need and fills it well.

Funbridge is the leading solo bridge app. The Argine AI plays all three robot seats using Standard American. After each deal, you see how your result compares to other players who played the same hand. Formats include Series (6-12 board matchpoint events), daily tournaments, and 5-deal IMP challenges.

Free tier: 2 deals per day (14 per week) with ads and one commented deal per week. Premium costs $15.99/month or $174.99/year. Premium+ runs $24.99/month or $274.99/year. Available on iOS, Android, and web.

Funbridge is good at one thing: letting you play a lot of hands. That is not the same thing as getting better at the decisions inside those hands. The post-deal analysis shows your percentile against the field, but it does not score your alternatives or tell you which lead would have been better. Users on Trustpilot have reported cancellation friction and Argine bidding inconsistencies.

Bridge Champ is a free online platform by Jelurida with play against humans and robots, plus blockchain token rewards. Available on web, iOS, and Android.

The honest drawback: the player pool is small and the platform is still described as "under development." If you need reliable matchmaking or a large field, Bridge Champ is not there yet. But the price is free, so there is no risk in trying it.

The four platforms above cover the playing side of BBO alternatives. If your frustration is rude opponents, misclicks, or server outages, one of them can help.

But when I talk to club players about why they searched for a BBO alternative, the deeper issue is different: BBO gives you no structured way to practice the decisions that cost the most IMPs. Cuebids is the most popular app for practicing bidding with a real partner. You and your partner bid deals asynchronously, then get instant double-dummy feedback scored 0-3 stars. Over 14,000 users. Systems: 2/1, SAYC, Acol, Precision, Polish Club, and custom agreements.

Free tier: unlimited partner bidding, 48 tickets/month, one deal type, daily/weekly events. Diamond plan costs $5.99/month or $59.99/year. Heart plan ($18.90/month or $189/year) covers both partners. Web, iOS, and Android.

Here is the honest tradeoff. Cuebids has more system options and a larger partnership community. BridgeDummy scores every bidding alternative, not just the one you chose. Cuebids covers bidding only: no card play, no lead practice. If partnership bidding is your bottleneck, Cuebids is excellent. BridgeDummy's Bidding Challenges also offer async partnership bidding with full contract evaluation, but Cuebids has the bigger user base.

Tricky Bridge is a mobile app built for beginners and returning players. Structured lessons with a storyline, solo AI practice with hints, robot duplicate tournaments. It holds a 4.9 rating on iOS and 4.8 on Android.

Free: 57+ lessons, solo practice, 40 "Just Play" deals. Tournaments cost $9.99/month or $99.99/year. Deal packs cost $3.99 for 50 deals. iOS and Android only, no web.

App Store reviewers note the bot bidding is "really wonky." The app loses its value once you move past the beginner stage, and the paywall kicks in after 40 free deals. But for a brand-new player, it is the friendliest start I have seen on mobile.

Jack Bridge is a Windows desktop program by Berry Westra's team. Multiple Computer Bridge World Championship wins. Full deals against AI with adjustable difficulty, offline, no subscription.

The price is roughly $99 one-time with a 3-install limit. Windows only. The interface looks dated. Support is slow according to Trustpilot reviews. But if you want strong offline AI without a monthly fee, Jack is one of the few options left.

Play live with humans: IntoBridge for free casual and ACBL games. RealBridge if your club uses it. Bridge Champ if you want free and can tolerate a smaller field.

Play solo against robots: Funbridge is the most established, with field comparison and tournaments. Jack Bridge for offline AI on Windows without a subscription.

Train bidding and opening leads: BridgeDummy is the only platform that scores every alternative with double-dummy analysis across deals matching the auction. The Lead Gym and Bidding Gym are free and need no account. Cuebids is the best option for practicing bidding with a real partner.

I still play on BBO. For live tables, for Vugraph, for ACBL events, it is the default and that will not change soon. But BBO does not have a training tool for opening leads or bidding decisions.
